With the start of the new year, companies are setting goals and creating plans to make the new year successful.
Change is never an easy thing, however it is necessary to facilitate continuous improvement. In the IT world, continuous improvement is another term for modernization. This process can be time consuming, requires the appropriate resources, and can be expensive. It is essential though if companies want to remain competitive.
Modernization and continuous improvement in IT reminds me of the life cycle of a plant. Plants grow, they stagnate (stop growing), then they die. In this cycle, if the plant isn’t growing, its dying. Modernization is a way IT departments and business are able to continue to grow. There are many different strategies and ways to modernize IT departments, all of which vary in complexity and impact.
Keep in mind, modernization is not always huge projects taking years to complete. Simply updating a user interface can be a huge improvement and can set the ground work for future development work. Modernizing databases can increase performance as well as security and integrity, but this can take time. In today’s world, security and maximum efficiency are premiums and how businesses stay ahead of their competitors.
