Many Small and Medium Sized Businesses (SMB) have turned to Managed IT Services to manage their IT infrastructure, from desktops to servers and storage. And they are doing it for the same reasons as large firms. While the scope might be different, the results are typically the same and therefore the reasons. We spend a lot of our time in the SMBs space. Our SMB clients face the same issues and struggles as our larger clients. The things they face are just as important to them. The big difference is many times they lack the same resources. It could be talent or manpower or even capital to accomplish what they need to do to support their organization. Many are turning to us for Managed Services to help them accomplish their needs and goals.
CompTIA recently did a survey of SMBs to determine their top drivers for moving to Managed Services.
1. Improved security
2. Proactive approach to IT problems
3. Better uptime
4. Gain access to newer technologies
5. Cost savings over in-house IT
6. Peace of mind
7. Free up internal staff for strategic work
8. Tap into cloud solutions
9. Lack of internal IT
10. Handle remote office IT.
Let’s take a closer look at the first few of these drivers.
1. Enhanced Security
No one needs to be reminded of the importance of cybersecurity in today’s world. With ransomware threats and DDoS attacks around every corner, the typical SMB have to deal with the same threats as the larger organizations. Cyber threats do not discriminate based on size. A Managed Service Provider can bring a wealth of experience and resources to address the SMBs security needs
2. Proactive approach to IT problems
Daily operations consume a large majority of any IT department’s budget. Just as importantly, it consumes a large majority of a departments resources and time. Working with a Managed Service Provider not only frees up the department to direct those resources in other areas, it brings in an organization dedicated to the efficient operation of the infrastructure. This means addressing issues before they become a problem.
3. Better Uptime
Every business, no matter the size, needs IT resources that are available and responsive. The need for consistent uptime is a given. SMBs can rely on a Managed Service Provider to keep their systems running efficiently and smoothly.
While this has been a look at just a few of the issues SMBs face, here at Arbor Solutions we offer hardware and service solutions in the IBM Power Systems market. Typically, the traditional Managed Service market does not serve this space. We offer a customized approach to Managed Services in the IBM Power Systems space. This includes managing both production and backup/HA roles.
